By default, Word Translator for Windows is set so that by pressing the Ctrl key once your keyboard will produce accented characters. By pressing Ctrl the second time your keyboard will produce the normal characters you are used to. This feature is there to help you type accented characters. However, if you do not find it useful you can easily switch it off by going into the Word Translator Setup menu and then making the Change Keyboard Hotkey: be None.

2 Word Translator does not work with Word for Windows

You must ensure that you do not have WordPerfect help active in Word for Windows. In order to ensure that this is not the case please take the following steps inside of Word for Windows:

3 You are trying to use Word Translator for Windows with Russian and it is not working

You must ensure that you do not have any Russian keyboard driver programs running in Windows before you start using Word Translator for Windows. If you do they can interfere with the proper operation of Word Translator for Windows. If you do have such software on your PC you must carefully follow instructions for disabling or un-installing your Russian keyboard in its user's manual.

4 The Word Translator program group does not appear in your particular program which acts instead of Program Manager

You will have to manually create a Word Translator Program Group and then manually insert the WT32.EXE, WT32.HLP, INFO.HLPI, LNGTUT32.EXE, LNGTUT.HLP iles into the Word Translator program group by consulting the user's manual of your software that acts instead of Program Manager.

For the the Word Translator UNINSTAL Program; yoy manually insert:

5 Your windows system keeps crashing when using Word Translator.

Run chkdsk.exe or scandisk.exe in order to ensure that your hard disk does not have any lost chains or any other faults. If it does run: chkdsk /f or just scandisk, delete all Word Translator files in the WINTRAN directory and then re-install Word Translator

Comment out (type REM in front of each line) any lines that you do not need or can do without in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. It is quite possible that some third party badly written software is doing something unwarranted to your Windows operating system and by putting the REM statement in front of .SYS and other files names inside of your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files you will be able to disable them and see if they are the cause of the problem.

7 Why does Word Translator wrongly translate some words/phrases/sentences?

Even the most expensive machine translation software on the market cannot correctly translate words/phrases/sentences which it does not have in its current dictionary.

In many instances a minimal effort needs to be put into adding a few key words and phrases that are used in a particular translation domain which will in turn increase the accuracy of Word Translator dramatically.

In this sense, Word Translator is like speech recognition software or optical character recognition software which must be trained before it can reach an acceptable level of accuracy. Users must be prepared to put this very basic and minimal effort in order to customize the dictionaries. Unless this key point is understood and acted upon Word Translator will not come alive nor will it be useful.

8 I cannot see Russian/Polish/East European/Japanese characters in my word processor. What should I do?

You must change the font of the text that Word Translator pastes into your word processor Windows application after Word Translator has pasted the text back to your word processor. Changing the font involves selecting the text (highlighting it) and then clicking the fonts list box and selecting the Pravda/Danube/Hiragana font.

9 The Word Translator 98 has no longer the floating toolbar (SpeedBar) as in the 4.0 version of Word Translator. Why has it been left out?

Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0 has a so called TaskBar where all currently active programs have an icon representing them. The idea of the TaskBar is to show the user an easy way to get to any software that is currently running on the computer. If you click with the right mouse button on the Word Translator icon on the TaskBar you will be able to see a menu of all possible Word Translator operation modes. If you left mouse click on a desired mode Word Translator will automatically change to this mode.

10 When I enter Setup, it sometimes looses my preferences after clicking exit, it jumps back into Word Translation mode after I have selected the Document Translation mode.

This is no longer the case in the latest version of Word Translator.

11 Scrolling up and down between choices should be unlimited, scrolling more than 5 lines in document mode (source language) doesn't work.

If you press the UpArrow (up arrow) / PgUp (page up) or the DownArrow (down arrow) / PgDn (page down) keys on your keyboard you can scroll through the dictionary as much as you like.

12 The bottom windows in the Document Translation mode should allow editing

The latest version of Word Translator allows you to edit a word or phrase before it is pasted into the destination text window. This effectively permits edit of the translation before it is pasted back into your Windows application.

13 Is there an undo option in document mode several steps back?

There are an unlimited number of undo levels in the latest version of Word Translator.

14 Both the original text and translated text window should have an independent scroll bar.

There is only one scroll bar because by scrolling it Word Translator automatically scrolls through both the source and destination text windows automatically keeping the sentence/line alignment for you so that you can see the context within which words/phrases/sentences occur.

15 The handling of punctuation marks, hard returns etc. should be improved.

This is the case in older versions of Word Translator. The Word Translator 98 version do not have this problem.
